  • i like my pencil cup clean.

every week or so i pick through the pencil cup on my desk, clearing it of the pens i prefer not to use and the pencils that are blunt. (If i knew where a pencil sharpener was i'd probably just sharpen them and keep more pencils in the cup). why have a pencil cup filled with writing utensils when only 2 or three are used regularly? it's about preference; the ones i like better get to stay in the pencil cup longer. and as an added bonus, the desk looks a little more organized.

  • living room

ahh yes... a day in the life. Husband on the computer (probably entering numbers and running reports in Quicken) and me sitting nearby (probably reading). that's our life these day.

well, not all day everyday. Husband works between 40 and 50 hours a week. I do a lot of baking/meal-planning. Since I quit my job a few weeks ago, I've been doing a lot more of the "housewife" stuff. Not that I'm completely pleased with myself regarding keeping things in their place and having a cleaning routine -- other than doing dishes about two or three times a day!

it's summertime and this year that means lots of cool weather and (recently) gloomy, rainy days -- with lots of humidity! yesterday Husband and I went swimming for the first time all Summer. If that's not depressing, I don't know what is... nearly the middle of August and we *just* went swimming for the first time. We did go kayaking a few times though, and I guess that's a good start to being near the water.

  • winds

it's been pretty windy here the last day or so.
Husband has been sick since Monday, and I'm hoping the winds will blow the sickness away soon...

Spring is in full bloom, as are many of the "signs of Spring": garage sales, people raking their yards, kids and bicycles on the streets, gray rainclouds, graduation announcements, weddings...

We went to a wedding this past weekend. A college housemate of mine married a college friend. It was a cheerful wedding, with lots of smiles and just the smallest sprinkles. Jen looked beautiful  and Chris was speechless when he was pronounced a husband. It was great!

I've finished my crocheted blanket, and have been working on another one -- a loom-knit one this time though. (It was supposed to be finished for the wedding, but my back has been giving me pains and I had to take a break). Only another couple hours before it'll be ready to send off to the happy couple. Husband and I figured that we enjoyed getting presents after the main event, so we're pretty sure other people will as well, right?

  • full daylight.

no discounts on daylight this time of year!
while we remembered to change our clocks ahead an hour last Saturday, last night when i was setting the "other" alarm clock, i didn't realize it was still an hour behind... and woke up an hour later than i should have.

yep, that's right. i woke up at the time i should have been punching-in at work!
now, i realize that people sometimes have issues getting to church on time the day after a beginning/ending of daylight savings... but how many people do you know use the excuse *four* days later?!

    in other events:

    • i put together the first NoRa newsletter several weeks ago, and feel real good about it. (if you haven't received one, let me know and i'll email you a copy of it).
    • we still have snow. on Sunday we received another 6-7" in the matter of a few hours. if i had a digital camera, i'd have taken a picture of Husband stuck in the driveway due to the snow.
    • speaking of driveways, we've moved! i have a few photos that i need to acquire, and then I'll be able to post them. the house is little, but it's nice. lots of nice things about it -- and we try to focus on those other things when we're entering the closet of a bathroom. ha!
    • on Tuesday mornings, i've started attending a World Relief Quilting group. Even this early in the year, they've sent off nearly 300 quilts! I'm continually amazed, and glad that i can help (even if all i do is tie knots to keep the layers together). i'm the only one under the age of 50 that is there, so if anyone wants to join me, let me know... i told the little ladies i'd try and bring them some more young folks.
    • last night i started -- and almost finished -- putting together a quilt top. the plan is to donate it to the LWR Quilt box next Tuesday, but it's my first quilt(!) so i may want to save it for a heirloom. still undecided on that one. i'll get a photo of it.
    • Ooo! My crocheted blanket is on it's way to completion too... last time i posted about it, it was 66" x 24" and when i get a chance, i'll get it's new measurements -- probably something like 66" x 50"!

    new year... new month

    it's almost February already!

    Recap...
October: weather was great for the wedding; Noel & I said our lines w/o difficulty and now we're married! We trucked it up the the Upper Peninsula for a week, then unwrapped a bunch of gifts and found places to put (almost) everything.

November: I went to Grand Rapids for the week to do a Cherry Republic Gift Show and came back to a very lonely Noel . The two of us enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving feast together, but missed both of the extended family meals. A cousin of mine died, and we went downstate to be with family and celebrate his life and Faith.

December: People came in and bought tons of cherry products for friends and family -- and i sent out my fair share as well! Noel & I stopped using the Dryer after reading Serve God, Save the Planet and put the TV on a power-strip so we can reduce "phantom electricity" charges. We put up a little Christmas Tree and hosted Christmas Dinner (my parents, one of my brothers, and Noel's Grandma). Sirloin with Cognac-Raisin Sauce? Yes, please!

January: I had several days off around Christmas and New Year, and now my hours at work are settling into a low-30s average. It's really boring at work now that we're open until 9pm and no one comes in past 5:30! Noel still works 'round the corner at Hagerty Ins. and when we can, we carpool. Our budget is still being fine-tuned, but we're trying to save costs where we can in order to pay down/off our current debts. It's been a good experiment in necessity v. desire, patience, and annoyance (with Quicken 2009 ). Our two favorite budget information sites are Dave Ramsey and Crown Financial Ministries, and we're well on our way to having our ducks in a row -- er, we don't actually have any little ducks to put in a row yet... so maybe, all our eggs in one basket? ha!

I'm planning on re-posting my New Year Resolutions from last year to do an analysis of them and revision for this year, but that'll be my next post. Stay tuned!
